100 ESSENTAILS – All The King’s Men

Meet the original American demagogue. All the King’s Men is a Pulitzer Prize winning novel about the corrupt, populist political rise and fall of fictional Governor Willie Stark, loosely based on Louisiana Governor Huey Long.

The story is told through the perspective of journalist Jack Burden, exploring themes of power, corruption, and morality in the 1930s American South. The novel was adapted into a classic 1949 film that won three Oscars, and a later 2006 film adaptation.
