Description
The nine stories in this collection are reflections on social, political or cultural events grabbing the headlines during the year in which they were written; we trace the lives of the St. Paul Bartholomews as their circumstances change. Present in all the stories is the endearing character Handyman, who runs the Open Cupboard food shelf, and Officer Carter (inspired by former St. Paul police officer Melvin Carter Jr., father of Mayor Melvin Carter III.)
