Roberto Bolano’s 2666 was published after his death, and at a whopping 900+ pages, it’s considered his most important and best work. It’s a heavy read, with graphic depictions of violence – sexual and otherwise – and a structure that defies categorization. The characters are broadly diverse and riveting, and the story is deep and destabilizing. We’ll talk about why this book may have been on a 100 Essential Novels list, and ultimately, if it should have been.
