DESCRIPTION:Join us for an introductory meeting to learn about Story Line Books’ new book clubs! If you can’t make it\, no worries\, feel free to join us at any of the monthly clubs detailed below! Registered attendees receive 10% off of the next month’s book\, so make sure you register in advance of the meetings! \n  \nNONFICTION:  \nWhat: All books nonfiction\, about a variety of topics with an emphasis on books about or related to current events or heritage celebrations. \nWhen: First Wednesday of each month\, starting May 7! \n  \n100 ESSENTIAL NOVELS:  \nWhat: Work through the 100 Essential Novels with us (list here). Pick up your own scratch-off poster to collect them all! \nWhen: Second Wednesday of every month\, starting April 9 (We’re starting with The Great Gatsby to celebrate its 100th anniversary!) \n  \nSTAFF PICKS/GENRE FICTION \nWhat: Staff favorites\, mostly selected from the ranks of the genre fiction (romance\, thriller\, mystery\, science fiction\, dystopia\, or fantasy!) because that’s what we like. \nWhen: Third Wednesday of each month\, starting April 16th \n  \nCONTEMPORARY LITERATURE \nWhat: What we jokingly refer to as “Oscar-bait\,” this club will focus on new or near-new fiction novels/literature\, particularly those books exploring themes of topical interest or by marginalized authors. \nWhen: Fourth Wednesday of each month\, starting April 23th. \n  \n

Johnson: \nMarlene M. Johnson was Minnesota’s first woman lieutenant governor\, serving in Governor Rudy Perpich’s administration from 1983 until 1991. She is cofounder of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and the Minnesota Women’s Campaign Fund and was executive director and CEO of NAFSA: Association of International Educators for nearly two decades. She is now on the advisory board of Kakenya’s Dream\, a board member of the Washington Office on Latin America\, and a trustee of The Alexandria Trust. In 1988\, she was awarded the Royal Order of the Polar Star by the Kingdom of Sweden. She lives in Washington\, D.C. \n  \nAbout Margaret Anderson Kelliher: \nMargaret Anderson Kelliher was appointed City Operations Officer for the City of Minneapolis by Mayor Jacob Frey and confirmed by the Minneapolis City Council in 2024. In this pivotal role\, she leads key departments\, including Civil Rights\, Public Works\, and 17 departments under Internal Services\, Communications and Engagement\, and Development\, Health\, and Livability. \nBefore her appointment\, she served as Minnesota’s Commissioner of Transportation\, where she prioritized safety\, climate resilience\, and equity within the transportation system. She has also led the Minnesota Technology Association\, chaired Governor Dayton’s Broadband Task Force\, and pioneered a paid internship program to connect small businesses and students with opportunities in technology and sciences. \nA former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives for twelve years\, she made history as the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House.
